It became a habit to cry in the shower after my swimming lessons. My eyes turned red with the stress of chlorine, little tears squeezed from each duct like a swollen lime. My mother never had any mercy. She took me by the hand each time and led me to the edge of an ocean.
You have to learn to swim, Chris. How else will you survive?
