They came because we are known for resilience. Adaptability. Dealing with loss. We’ve seen it all before.
We inhabitants of an ever-retreating shore: clifftop-perchers; nest-squatters; sea-spiers; tactical-retreaters; permanent erecters of temporary fencing. We know all about living with rising tides. Ground forever cut from beneath our feet. The shifting coastline—scope of our seaward-facing lives—forever redefined. Redefining us. We don’t measure in expansion, but contraction. How many inches, feet, yards reclaimed last night? How much ground eaten away? How can you own land that will be sea-bedded tomorrow?
