Ada took a quick sip of her drink. Her cold glass had left a wet stain on the table, turning the sand underneath it into sludge. She played with the sediment, her soft brown fingers pushing it into patterns, gathering dry particles to satisfy the sands thirst. Since she’d arrived, the gentle breeze had covered her feet completely with roaming grains from the desert that surrounded her. She shifted her weight in the chair and a cascade of yellow fell off her lifted trainer. Ada was so engrossed that she did not notice her arrival until a shadow blocked the sun.
