The Gull Man

The Gull Man by Zoe Walker

Gull Man tipped his hat to the waves. He’d added another couple of feathers into the brim this morning. Good ones. Slick, grey ones. Healthy ones.

It was early morning. The tide was out. So far out that the Ramsgate shoreline had peeled its watery skin right back to the bare bones, exposing that undulating, sinewy part of itself that exists between the sea and the sand—a place where the ground becomes all quicksandy, melty and slightly unpredictable.
