One of the many services offered by the Shabbercroft Inn, a tattered auberge belted to that middle-aged bulge of the California coast, is that a patron can pay $50 per hour to speak with a mermaid. There are other activities available at the inn, too, such as ring-toss, dartboards, Thursday-night Bingo, and a NeoNazi grandma who will walk the shore with you, helping you find seashells. If she grabs a good one before you, she’ll charge you two dollars to take it home.
