And again it comes back in a frozen churn, the cold wave of the new and old. This fourth Issue forthwith marks the first birthday of Seaside Gothic, and as it goes forth forging a fathom through flotsam and froth we see how far we have come in four short quarters.
In this chilled saltwater that surrounds my feet I am proud to be at the helm of this shipwreck. This magazine is a collection of oddities, of the displaced and diseased and darkened and devoured. Its mast stands tall, and at its head the sign bears my name etched with a sharpened oyster shell, and also the name of another, for it is in this Issue that I, and we all, welcome the new Editorial Assistant, Elle Brown.
The pieces here have been brought together by us both, and so she has carved her own name into the plaque atop our beached vessel with bleeding fingers.
We who have crawled from caves through sand and stone are united in our stance. Seaside Gothic is our charge and we shall hold fast and true.
There is something fully uncompromising about this magazine. It has lasted to its own anniversary and is due to reach more, with future Issues waiting with expectancy, poised to burn as they drift in from the ice water to the sand that bakes in the sun we know will come.
Each Issue stands proud upon our bow and today this number four joins their ranks. It is its own and it is pure.
As you stand on the ground that shifts with waves lapping at your ankles, raise a totem to us and give thanks to the sea. She gives and she takes and here, now, she is with us.
